Rate Thumbs Up or Down for all Songs on Deeper Into Music
You may have noticed the ratings system on the Floating Playlist and Last 8 section. The rating system allows you to cast a vote for a song as it plays and the vote will automatically be added to the songs database. As more votes are cast the votes start to influence the playlist rotation so that eventually higher rated songs will be heard more often. Positive votes and requests will (eventually) cause those songs to play in a higher rotation. Songs that get few requests or negative votes will (eventually) play a lot less often. Songs are required to have at least four votes before the system applies the votes to the song rotation and playlist. Songs with a significantly high number of votes get a proportionally greater increase over time.
Scores of negative votes can significantly reduce the play frequency of a song. In fact, it’s quite possible to vote artists “off the island” so to speak. Significant low votes lead to an artist’s play being either severely curtailed or, in some cases, completely eliminated.
Update 3/2011: You are now able to easily vote on any song at any time on its Song Information page. You get to that by clicking on a song’s album art from the Last 8 page (or by searching for the song in the site search). Also, on the Last 8 page, you can click on the Info icon:

You are not required to register to vote, however, you can vote for any song only as it is currently streaming and then only once per song in any 24 hour period. I hope folks will make use of the ratings system.
